From Consultant to Trusted Advisor
The Challenge
Initially engaged to assess business office performance in two of its decentralized departments, Goldman Health Services became a trusted business advisor as NYU Langone Health and its Division of Clinical Affairs and Ambulatory Care transformed from a decentralized group of approximately 70 practices to a network of over x providers with a single electronic health system and standardized operational procedures.
The Story
When NYU Langone Health decided that an integrated clinical and financial system was a key component of its strategy, there were over 10 separate billing systems and as many separate business offices. Ten years later, NYU Langone has grown its network by x ambulatory sites and y providers throughout the New York area. NYU Langone has consolidated its operations to a single electronic health record, standardized its business processes and reduced its business offices under the direction of centralized physician practice leadership. Goldman Health Strategies was a key partner with NYU in this transformation.
The Solution
Partnership
Goldman Health Strategies successfully partnered with Clinical Affairs, Hospital Operations, and Epic Information Technology executives to achieve on-time, on-budget implementations in over x ambulatory sites and 5 hospitals.
Project Management
Goldman Health Strategies was the operational project lead for the Epic PB implementation. Goldman Health Strategies also spearheaded a number of optimization initiatives over the years including the integration of the NYULH Cactus provider credentialing system into Epic, the implementation of the Experian Patient Payment Estimator product, operationalization of the Epic Haiku charge capture module.
Business Model
Goldman Health Strategies effectively served as the business process owner when system implementation began. Over the course of several years, Goldman Health Strategies mentored the newly appointed physician revenue cycle leader and provided input and feedback on organizational structure, staffing and job descriptions.
Business Requirements and Workflows
Goldman Health Strategies’ deep understanding of the professional billing revenue cycle, practice management, provider based practices and clinical workflows was critical in defining business requirements and creating standardized, integrated workflows from patient setting through clinical encounters to full resolution of the patient account.
Change Management
Successful implementation of structural, operational and technology of this magnitude requires a highly skilled team. Goldman Health Strategies was an integral part of the team that has helped transform NYU Langone from a leading academic medical center to a financially strong health system.
